Donna Spelling – Window
There's a moment, roughly two minutes into "Window," when the synthesizers part like clouds after a summer storm and Yoav Chorev's voice—performing as his alter ego Donna Spelling—emerges unadorned and achingly pure. It's the sort of moment that reminds listeners why this artist has cultivated such a devoted following over the years.

The track "Window" builds with patience and intention. Its percussion skitters nervously beneath an understated keyboards line, creating a tension that Chorev's vocal delivery—both technically flawless and emotionally raw—gradually resolves with each passing verse. The hallmarks of producer Nir Yatzkan Kroll are evident throughout, though his typically maximalist tendencies have been wisely reined in here.

Drawing inspiration from Enya, microbeats, and South American electronic artists like Chancha Via Circuito, "Window" creates what Chorev describes as "music connected to mother earth." Melodic ideas from Asia to Latin America blend with a French impressionist touch, creating a soundscape that feels both universal and deeply personal.

Lyrically, the single explores themes of friendship and support—written, as Chorev explains, "about helping a friend get out of bed." There's a nurturing quality to both words and composition, offering what the artist calls "deity-like comfort for the people at the end of the party." Yet beneath this comfort lies a deeper revelation: songs initially written about an ex-boyfriend have transformed into vehicles for confronting inner doubts.

The recording process itself informs the music's emotional resonance. Created in a studio beneath a hotel—where "rich people are staying, and homeless people are on the street"—this dichotomy permeates the track's contemplative atmosphere. Similarly, the construction sites of Chorev's hometown provide unexpected inspiration, with "debris assembling like a movement of rock stuck in time."

In embracing the Donna Spelling persona, Chorev celebrates the influential women in his life, channeling their strength into a performance that transcends gender while honoring its complexities. "Window" succeeds precisely because it refuses easy categorization, instead inviting listeners into a space where vulnerability becomes a source of power.

It's the sound of an artist remembering what made him essential in the first place, and in doing so, becoming essential once again.
