Once upon a time in the era of classical rock, the word 'multi-instrumentalist' evoked an association with an one-man orchestra - where, those who were unfamiliar with music terminology, imagined a man sitting on the crosswalk or walking around the fair with many percussion and harmonica near his lips plus guitar in hands. Of course, there were multi-instrumentalists, in our understanding, even then, but the cult of the rock band as a family was very developed. Nowadays, the number of musicians in the group is decreasing in parallel with the development of recording technologies, as at one time the number of workers in factories decreased due to the automation of production processes.

But we were distracted from the main topic, or rather from the main character of our review, so meet - Tristan Nelson and his English project Three Day Monk. Recently, a second mini-album of his music, called 'Aki' was released. Well congratulations - we got a really table book on modern art rock.  From the first track 'Bowerbird' we recognize the producer's talent of Tristan in the selection of tones and phrasing of individual moments, making each composition epic and amazing. The tone of the guitar - a very nice sound of the 70s and vocals with falsetto and unexpected timely Coda - is indisputable proof that the creation of Three Day Monk - sounded at first with every note in the author's head.

The ideas of the original forms are great big in this EP and such moments as, for example, a high hat in a foggy background and a vocal part both at first as a gospel and at the end as Cobain's rattle will pleasantly surprise in the second track '17'.

What's next? And then even more interesting, then the song 'I wish you were dead' - a masterpiece of art rock - female vocals with piano accompaniment echoes with backing vocals to the accompaniment of strings and then all together sing the rhythmical chorus that break off wonderfully turning into a classical sonata  for strings in the middle of the song. Whispers and again rock with avant-garde motifs.

The latest track called 'Misanthrope's Vessel' ballad with acoustic guitar and strings completes this musical epic.  You can analyze the lyrics separately, but one thing is for sure, that as a libretto to the opera 'Aki' only complements the movement of images and musical elements of this conceptual work to listen to, which we recommend below on Spotify.
