Cas du Pree – Man Of My Word
The Netherlands has long exported electronic dance music to the world, but Cas du Pree arrives with an altogether different proposition. His latest single, "Man Of My Word," released on January 16th, represents both a reintroduction and a reckoning—a track that demands attention after more than a year's silence from the Brummen-based singer-songwriter.

From the opening bars, it becomes apparent that du Pree has been studying at the feet of James Arthur, whose influence permeates the song's architecture. The gradual build, the confessional intimacy, the way vulnerability hardens into defiance—these are Arthur's signatures, yet du Pree wears them comfortably rather than slavishly. Working alongside British collaborator Hugh Webber and producer Arron Storey, he's crafted something that sits squarely in the contemporary singer-songwriter tradition while maintaining a distinctive edge.

The production, handled by Storey with final mixing assistance from Iggy B, achieves a delicate balance between polish and rawness. Recorded over three intensive days in March, UK, the track benefits from what du Pree describes as meticulous attention to phrasing—the deliberate imperfections that prevent overly formal English from creating emotional distance. This focus on authenticity extends beyond mere pronunciation; it's embedded in the vocal delivery itself, which oscillates between assured declaration and tremulous introspection.

Lyrically, "Man Of My Word" operates on dual fronts. The personal narrative addresses du Pree's husband Paul, acknowledging past fractures in trust while asserting the solidity of present commitment. Yet the track simultaneously functions as artistic manifesto, with the line "My voice will be heard, as I fight for what I've earned" serving as both promise and warning to an industry that has kept him waiting. This duality—the domestic and the professional, the intimate and the ambitious—gives the song its tension.

The mastering, courtesy of Ivo Statinski, deserves particular mention. Statinski's analogue approach lends the track a warmth that digital processing often strips away, allowing du Pree's vocals to sit comfortably in the mix without drowning in reverb or studio trickery. The result feels deliberately understated, trusting the material rather than overwhelming it.

As the opening salvo in what du Pree calls his "deconstructed album"—thirteen tracks to be released in singles and EPs over the coming months before arriving as a complete statement—"Man Of My Word" carries considerable weight. It must bridge his earlier work, represented by the 2020 album "Getting To Know Me," while signaling fresh creative territory. The track manages this admirably, offering enough familiarity to retain existing listeners while hinting at evolution.

The collaboration between Dutch directness and British lyrical finesse—du Pree and Webber's cross-cultural partnership—produces intriguing results. Where a native English speaker might soften edges or resort to comfortable metaphor, du Pree's outsider perspective occasionally cuts more cleanly. The theme of (mis)communication that threads through the forthcoming album announces itself here in the very act of making oneself understood across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

Whether "Man Of My Word" will propel du Pree beyond the Netherlands remains uncertain. The singer-songwriter field is notoriously crowded, and breaking through requires more than competent craftsmanship. Yet there's genuine conviction here, a sense that these words and melodies matter deeply to their creator. That authenticity, that refusal to simply occupy space in the market, might prove the difference.

For now, du Pree has made good on his title. He's delivered a statement of purpose that justifies the wait and establishes the terms for everything that follows. The next twelve months will reveal whether audiences prove as faithful to him as he promises to be to them.
