Delta of Venus – Intertwined b/w Intertwined (acoustic)
The second offering from Connecticut's Delta of Venus arrives as a document of creative serendipity – what began as a rehearsal room joke about "acoustic shoegaze" has yielded one of the most compelling singles of the season. Following their lauded debut "Disengaged b/w Slipping," this double A-side demonstrates impressive artistic growth while remaining true to the architectural principles that define their sound.

"Intertwined" in its primary form is a masterclass in textural exploration. The band eschews conventional song structures entirely – there are no verses, choruses or solos to be found – instead crafting sections that revolve around each other in orbital patterns. This approach creates a listening experience that's both disorienting and deeply immersive, mirroring the song's lyrical preoccupation with finding empathy amid chaos.

Guitarist Ellery Twining, drawing from techniques refined during his solo career, constructs sonic landscapes that feel simultaneously expansive and intimate. The rhythm section provides crucial foundation without resorting to predictable patterns, while the production from Dirt Floor Recording captures the band's essence with remarkable fidelity.

The acoustic version, far from being a mere curio, stands as an equal partner in a fascinating dialogue about genre boundaries. By stripping away the electronic elements so fundamental to shoegaze identity, Delta of Venus reveal the architectural strength of their compositions. The acoustic rendering maintains the dreamlike quality of the original while introducing new textural elements that reward attentive listening.

What's perhaps most impressive about "Intertwined" in both incarnations is how it manages to pay homage to shoegaze's rich history while pushing against its limitations. In a genre often criticized for prioritizing atmosphere over substance, Delta of Venus demonstrate that the two need not be mutually exclusive. This release suggests a band confidently charting their own course through the shoegaze cosmos, guided by curiosity rather than convention.
