Foa Hoka was founded in 1991 by Dmytro Kurovskiy and Vlad Dikhtyarenko. Later, they were joined by another iconic musician and DJ, Ivan Moskalenko (DJ Derbastler). Foa Hoka's colorful musical catalog is marked by a powerful album legacy that undoubtedly adorns modern Ukrainian art in general. In its stylistic diversity, Foa Hoka uses elements of electronics, rock, industrial, psychedelia, ambient. It is noteworthy that the work of the Foa Hoka band is perhaps better known outside of Ukraine and their collaboration with foreign labels, such as Koka Records (Poland) or Black Leather Records (Columbia), as well as constant performances in Europe, speak for themselves. Nevertheless, Foa Hoka is an extraordinary phenomenon in the Ukrainian cultural space and we are glad that despite the difficult period for Ukraine and the city of Chernihiv in particular, we have the opportunity to listen to their new works.
One of the more recent releases from Foa Hoka is their joint album with another Chernihiv musician Fedir Tkachov. The record is called 'More Light!' and was released on September 10, 2024. Actually, Foa Hoka leader Dmytro Kurovskiy participated in the recording of this album, filling this innovative music with his insightful psychedelic lyrics and hypnotic sample content. Fedir Tkachov, for his part, added unorthodox electronic ideas of an improvisational and background nature. Fedir Tkachov has been engaged in electronic music since 2007 and his original vision of musical expression is worthy of the attention of those who appreciate something new and charismatic. The collaboration of Dmytro Kurovskiy (Foa Hoka) and Fedir Tkachov is the logical point of contact of two talented personalities who grew up and formed as artists, musicians and producers in one historical city.
The album 'More Light!' consists of 12 tracks permeated with the power of the creative essences of the aforementioned musicians. The cinematic potential of this album is undeniable, because it is filled with unique forms of musical dynamics that move the entire content towards artistic images and desperate experiences. The aura of some mysticism that spills among the foggy synthesizers is diluted here with a raging stream of dance elements and the variegation of techno effects. The grace of neoclassical motifs echoes in this music with an attempt to isolate a deep palette of ornamental pulsating synthetics. And they succeed, because listening to the album 'More Light!', we seem to penetrate further than we can and among the presented compositions we find our favorite musical collage to which we want to return again and again.
