Noise Factory United – Southsea Common
On 1 May, Noise Factory United released their debut single. Coinciding with International Workers’ Day, this original post-punk anthem stands as a call for reflection on the challenges of modern life.

Musically, the single presents a mixture of punk, disco and shoegaze. A driving verse gives way to a chorus that immerses us in a maelstrom of driving guitars with cascading beats and a floating synth rift. As we approach the end of the track, a foreboding sense of the perils of life in a UK port city seeps in with a shoegaze aesthetic.

The vocal line is distinguished by a low, edgy timbre that alludes to the choices and constraints of the modern world. The lyrics of the song 'Southsea Common' allow us, then, to dive into the grey zones of everyday life, opening up a new perspective on seemingly ordinary things.

Can we attain ‘happiness in liminality’? There are no answers here but time spent in the space between the city and the sea that is Southsea Common might be the first step. Such is the challenge thrown up by this edgy band from the UK South Coast. We recommend you come to your own conclusions by listening to the single now on Spotify below or watching the video on Youtube below.
