Seema Farswani – Got My Mojo Working feat. Dem-C
Musical authenticity often feels as manufactured as a boy band's rebellious streak, yet Seema Farswani emerges as something genuinely arresting. Her collaboration with beatbox virtuoso Dem-C on "Got My Mojo" (feat. Dem-C) doesn't merely reimagine her own blues standard—it transforms an already compelling piece into something unexpectedly thrilling.

The backstory here matters: London's Temple of Arts and Music, summer 2024, Farswani expecting a drummer but getting Dem-C's vocal percussion wizardry instead. What could have been a polite musical mishap became instead a masterclass in spontaneous combustion. The nervous energy Farswani describes—"I had to pivot on the spot"—translates directly into the recording's restless, kinetic quality.

Dem-C's contribution isn't merely decorative. His beatboxing doesn't sit atop Farswani's blues like some trendy garnish, but weaves through the song's DNA, creating rhythmic pockets and sonic textures that feel inevitable in hindsight. The hip-hop inflections he brings serve the song's urban edge without compromising its bluesy soul—a delicate balance that lesser artists would have botched spectacularly.

Farswani herself remains the gravitational centre, her multilingual sensibilities and cross-cultural background lending the track a global citizenship that feels genuine rather than calculated. When she sings in this context—backed by Dem-C's percussive innovations and Tavitjan Production's astute sonic framing—her voice carries an additional urgency, as if the collaborative energy has unlocked something previously dormant.

The production walks the tightrope between raw live energy and studio polish with admirable skill. You can feel the Temple of Arts and Music in the recording's DNA—that sense of artistic community and creative risk-taking that marks the best collaborative spaces. It's the sound of artists discovering something together in real time.

If anything undermines the track, it's perhaps its own success story. The magical genesis narrative is so compelling that one occasionally wishes the music would push even further into uncharted territory. But this is churlish criticism of what amounts to a genuinely exciting cross-cultural experiment.

Farswani's artistic manifesto speaks of music as bridge-building, and "Got My Mojo" (feat. Dem-C) serves as compelling evidence. This isn't world music tourism but authentic cultural dialogue—two artists from different disciplines finding common ground in rhythm, soul, and the eternal human need to reclaim personal power through song.

"Got My Mojo" (feat. Dem-C) is the bold collaborative spin-off from Seema Farswani's debut EP. Her latest single "Under A Blazing Sun" was released May 29, 2025.
