Nairolf — the French-born, Ontario-transplanted multi-instrumentalist who has spent three albums quietly building a case for himself as one of the more thoughtful voices in the post-grunge diaspora — has done something genuinely disarming here: he's gone soft, and in doing so, gone deeper.

Twenty-two albums in, a songwriter either repeats himself into oblivion or finds a way to make repetition itself the joke. Hersey has chosen the latter path, and *Quixote* is the sound of a man who has finally admitted that the windmill was never going to fall, and decided to enjoy the tilting anyway.

Michigan City doesn't often get a mention on the pop map, but Young V has been quietly building a case for the Midwest's place in the hip-hop/R&B conversation, and "Get Away" is the sound of that case being made with real conviction. The record wears its influences openly — you can hear the DNA of Ja Rule and J.Lo's "I'm Real" running through its veins — but it never settles for nostalgia. Instead, it filters that late-'90s/early-2000s duet chemistry through a warmer, more contemporary lens, and the result feels less like homage than inheritance.

Horizon Beyond has arrived at "Quiet Kind of Lost" with a rare kind of confidence: the confidence to underplay everything. This is a single that refuses the obvious gesture — no key change swelling toward redemption, no chorus engineered to detonate on a festival stage. Instead it moves like weather across a window, patient and slightly grey, and it's all the more affecting for it.

Andrew Marshall doesn't do metaphor for its own sake. On "Blessing In Disguise," the second single pulled from his forthcoming *No Promises* project, the man behind the Dru Melodics name sets his own psychiatric file to a beat and dares you to look away. It shouldn't work as pop music. It works magnificently as something else entirely: testimony.
