Literally. The accompanying video splits him into a chattering committee of clones, each one assigned a different portfolio: songwriting, promotion, curator outreach, invoicing, existential dread. Watching them scramble across a city crosswalk, a classroom, a coffee shop and, memorably, low orbit, one senses a filmmaker who understands that self-mythology plays best when it refuses to take itself seriously.

The song’s engine is pure tongue-twister mechanics. Hibachi tumbles into karate, karate into wasabi, wasabi into hamachi, and by the time Kawasaki and the invented “Coloradski” turn up, the whole verse has become a kind of demented culinary road trip. It shouldn’t work. Rap built on pure phonetic chaining risks collapsing into novelty — a party trick with no pulse. Catalano avoids that trap by keeping the drums bouncing underneath like a trampoline catching a falling acrobat, so the wordplay never feels like showing off for its own sake; it feels like a man thinking too fast for his own good and turning that into rhythm.

And then, without warning, the bridge slows the whole carnival down: “Just wanna be heard before I hit the dirt / so I’ll keep putting in work.” It lands with the quiet violence of a joke that turns out to have been a confession all along. This is the trick worth admiring — the record spends three minutes convincing you it’s a novelty, then reveals, almost sheepishly, that the novelty was armour.

Comparisons to Lil Dicky’s shameless self-portraiture or the manic verbal dexterity of Watsky feel useful but not quite complete; Catalano’s clone conceit owes more to sketch comedy than to hip-hop’s usual flex-and-brag choreography, and the video’s low-budget green-screen surrealism — a man washing a windshield while a television broadcasts another version of himself performing — reads less like a music video and more like a satirical cartoon about the gig economy that happened to grow a hook.

The title’s second joke, the one buried under the pun, is the record’s real achievement: the slippage between “panhandling for views” and simply panhandling, the fear that romanticising the starving artist obscures how close that starvation can actually get. Catalano refuses to let the joke curdle into self-pity, choosing instead to dance through the anxiety rather than dissolve into it — a choice that separates comedy rap with something to say from comedy rap that merely wants a laugh and an exit.

Funny, restless, structurally cleverer than it lets on, and stitched together entirely by one man’s stubborn refusal to wait for a label that was never coming — “Pan-Handlin’ Views” earns its bounce.

Some records announce themselves with a shrug.
